Happy 2016! (gulp, Day 1 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days!)

I did it.

I haven't painted for awhile - because of the holiday hoop-la,
so just jumped right in ...
just like the New Year Polar Bear Plunge swimmers at Auke Rec in Juneau!
(except I was much warmer than they...)

My set-up, right in the living/great room.

Doing each painting on 6 x 8 inch Arches Huile papers prepared
by wiping on some Transparent Red Oxide + Medium (mine is made of Liquin and Walnut oil alkyd) to condition the paper so it won't soak in the oil as much.

3pm  Juneau       6x8 inches   oil on Arches Huile Paper
Day 1

My limited palette (for awhile anyway)
is three colors:
Pthalo Blue, Quinacridone Red, and Cad Yellow Light
 + White

I made myself take my glasses off and because the light was fast-fading at 3 pm, painted quickly. I hope to learn to loosen up and relax about painting with this challenge.

Thanks for checking in

Ah, the 30-30 challenge. Well, it's not the first time, so you know what to expect. You will be more relaxed (most days - haha). Wish I could join you.

You got off to a great start! Your painting is a stunner! Love your choice of colors in the limited palette - really exciting!

Best of luck with the challenge, Teri (though you won't need it) & in everything artsy throughout the year.

Thanks, Chris! The best part about the 30in30 challenge is that there is really no pressure except that that you put on yourself! And if one painting doesn't get done that day ... oh well!

Those colors are so vibrant! It is actually rather hard to make gray! which is what I see outside today - along with RAIN by the barrels, sigh...

Happy Batiking!
