I love her!! This is great Teri! What's cool about this is that a person could think up a few different stories about her. Especially if they're not familiar with this Venus.
Hi Teri, It is a compelling image...odd and quirky. I like the way the almost finished painting has turned out...love the depth of the background colour. Was this a sculpture?
Hi Teri...I just googled it...so now I know more about her! Have you thought about painting a series of fertility symbols such as this in the same kind of style or colours? I think it would make an interesting concept.
Hi Maggie, Yes, this sketch was done from a photo of the Old Stone Age (or Paleolithic) figurine found in Austria. It is one of the oldest prehistoric female sculpted forms ever found. It is 4.25" tall, limestone. It is thought to have served as a fertility image because women's childbearing capacity insured the survival of the species. Since I have born children, this image is very meaningful to me.
I like the forms and the result with earth colors... it reminds me something between African and Cycladic statues... I also like the texture of the painting...
very very interesting...
ReplyDeleteHow so, Mariela?
