for email recipients:

1.22.2012

I like this of the side-booms lowering the pipe into the ditch.
Am almost finished preparing my supports.

1.21.2012

Trying out color and composition.
I think my square format will work. Am gessoing the supports Matt is making for me.
He is using birch plywood with fir cradles.

Face In The Forest

Face in the Forest/Our View of Juneau, oil on canvas, 9 x 12"
Finished!
This painting was one of those I "had" to do ... so, I got it out of my system.
My Dad and Mom noticed a face looking over downtown Juneau.
Can you see it?

Pipeline Project

Another thumbnail sketch. These are about 2.5" x 3" or smaller.
To explain my project: Matt, my husband, worked in southern Oregon last year as
an Environmental Inspector for a 42" diameter natural gas pipeline going through the area.
He took lots of pictures for compliance evidence and we thought it may be fun to do a series of paintings based on pipeline construction.
This will be my body of work.
(For those of you getting this by email, here is the link to my blog.)

1.18.2012

I have been sketching some thumbnails, getting geared up for my project.
I've decided to use 8 x 8" cradled birch panels.

Open Sesame

As I was toasting sesame seeds for tahini today in my cast iron pan, a face appeared!
Silly, right? ... oh well, you can sketch many different ways.
I didn't get too much done today.
Just painted black edges on my painting of Juneau.

MLK Day

Warm-up for today...I can tell I was looking down on this figure - head is
big, feet small

Nearing completion.
Is it a sign that it looks the best to me in this tiny format?
I want to be done.

Coming along...

Harder to paint than I imagined...but it is coming along nicely I think.

1.13.2012

Made a change

Fixed this one. Much betta.
This is a 12 x 9, acrylic and pastel.

Two in-progress

I like to have a couple of paintings to work on.
The little vase is on linen and I rather like the way the raw linen looks.
I am going to add a bit more color, but not too much more.

Our View

Still warming/ramping up. Have wanted to paint the view from our windows.
This is from Douglas Island looking toward the mainland and downtown Juneau.

Warming Up

Our View, sketch

I am getting warmed up, seems I must do this whilst thinking about my project.
So, I painted a little flower painting yesterday and began work on this painting of the view from our house on Douglas Island toward Juneau on the mainland.

I follow a lot of art (and food) blogs and sometimes find great advice for both!
is a 7 minute video by an artist named Cedar Lee on her Art By Cedar website. Thanks Cedar!

Planning

3 Dozers

Pipeline, Ditch, Backhoe
Thumbnail sketches (~ 2" x 3")

Still need to determine:
1. Ground (canvas, panel)
2. Size (6 x 8, 12 x 12, ... )
3. Palette (Earth colors)

Catalyst

Hugo Robus       Steam Shovel 1920

Using this painting as inspiration, I am embarking on a project for a body of work.
Hugo Robus is my husband's grandfather. He was a silversmith, jewelry maker, painter and sculptor.
Here are examples of some of his work.

Yellow Tulip
from June 2

Fifth of 5 paintings from 2011.
This selection and review is a good beginning to the New Year -
the process got me thinking of themes for a body of work.

4/5 fav of 2011
This was my March 30 post
The Laundrymat

I like how this turned out, a little petit genre. A theme I am exploring.
I am intrigued with the slight curve of the middle washer.
Would like to get a frame on it, even though it seems ok without.

1.03.2012

Visions
Third out of 5 favorites painted in 2011.
The reason I like this is that I used acrylic gesso, sand, oil and pastel in it.

1.02.2012

This is 2/5 of my top choices of my own 2011 works.
I enjoyed drawing this from a real human skeleton.

1.01.2012

OMG 2012!
My post from January 3 is 1/5 on my list of favorite drawings/paintings that I posted from 2011.
I like it because it was drawn from a teeny-tiny little "coin" at the end of a bookmark...and I like that I took pictures of the drawing progress.
Oh, and another cool post from Art Biz Blog!

12.31.2011

Holiday Card for 2011
Heliconia sp (Hanging Lobster Claw)
Acrylic, 6" x 4.5"
Happy New Year!
As we all head into 2012, I wish everyone a healthy, creative and safe year.
In my next several posts, I will pick from my own work, my favorite paintings/drawings from 2011 as
A. Stanfield suggests in her Art Marketing Action newsletter.
I bet all of you have favorite events, movies, etc that delight you from 2011. Think of them and smile.
Cheers!

Newest oil painting

 Oil on Canvas  8" x 6"
Commission for a friend.
She titled it Mother/Daughter Love.
11/24/11  I just saw this painting on my friend's wall. Wow, it is very nice on her slate blue wall.

6.02.2011

Yellow Tulip

Acrylic on sandpaper, 5 x 3.25"

Just messing around with my acrylics again. This tulip was outside Matt's apartment. Not sure there is enough value differences, but it's ok.

6.01.2011

It's a start!

Dandelion Puffs, acrylic, 12 x 9" (unfinished)
I am considering this an underpainting. Done in acrylic, I will finish with oils when we return home.

5.25.2011

Rainforest Moss

6 x 9"
Trying to paint with acrylics here - on watercolor paper. Fun!

5.05.2011

I love serendipity!

This is one of the last drawings from class. I added a bit more to finish before popping it into a frame, but of course forgot to take a photo. This is an angled photo because the glare was bad.

But! The coolest thing happened! I follow Diane Hoeptner's blog. Diane had recently held a contest for her blogiversary and the person whose name she originally chose did not write her back, so she picked another, and it was mine! I actually won her Earth Harvest painting!! Thank you so much Diane! Please check her blog and website. Her floral paintings are unique, gentle and beautiful.
