Palette knife plein air - Juneau, AK

"No Lifeguard on Duty"        Oil on Arches Huile paper     8 x 6 inches
Our painting group went out today
even though it was misty and rainy.
We did take cover under some picnic shelters
 at Sandy Beach, however.

Tom and I set up at the cement wall.

Nice beginning, Tom!

Cristine's set up. She painted with just a palette knife, or two today.

Pretty little waterfall view

Pua made a lovely painting, but I didn't get a shot of it.
My scene

Thumbnail sketch       3.5 x 2.5 inches

I forgot to take any in-progress shots!
I used just the palette knife as well,
and it went pretty smoothly.

Detail (no brushmarks!)

Thank you so much for checking in!
As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Wow you captured the day and feeling in this blog today. I really like the title. I'd love to see Sandy Beach with kids and swimmers on a nicer day. Thanks for recording the day

Cristine - it would/will be great to paint at Sandy Beach when there are people swimming there and people picnicking, etc. I might even do something bigger! (And next palette knife painting will be on canvas!)

I love the way you captured the gray day atmosphere - the colors are so true and I admire your technique!

I have to ask - what is the purple structure used for?

Thank you Julie! Juneau has been (and still is to some extent) a gold mining area. That pump house used to pump seawater to the Treadwell Mine (1881 - 1922). Here are a couple of links for you https://www.markkelley.com/photoportfolio/pump-house-sandy-beach-juneau-alaska-image-2753/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treadwell_gold_mine.

I was on one of those large cruise ships and visited your beautiful area.

Is it just me or is your work on fire right now? You always show me a perspective I enjoy, but you have a sparky precision happening that is absolutely awesome.
