My painting of an American Dipper, or Water Ouzel
is after a wood carving, by my husband,
It is in our own collection!
One day recently, I began painting decoys and other birds that Matt had carved,
or that we have had here for repair or just in our collection.
Below in sequence is how I painted it.
first, the sketch |
This painting is a little unique in that I gessoed the panel
with a micaceous iron oxide gesso. It is very sparkly!
(also, it is unvarnished because i like the contrast
between the gesso and the matte paint ... and i'm
not sure what would happen if i varnished over that gesso!?)
American Dipper oil on panel 6 x 6.25 inches |
(ps this little painting is now up on my website, in the "Still Life" gallery
and can be purchase framed to your specifications or unframed)
Stay tuned for a few more paintings of decoys!
